Jamie ♥ RKO asked:

I’ve been a vegetarian for a while now, but my ultimate goal is to be a vegan. I’ve tried being a vegan before, but have miserably failed. I was so into foods like Morning Star, but I discovered they are not Vegan friendly because of the milk and egg products.

Any tips?

You could always replace your Morning Star foods with Boca products, if that’s the only food you need to replace.

After cutting that processed garbage out of my diet, I found it very easy to go Vegan. Start by limiting your consumption of Morningstar/Boca/whatever to one meal a day or week (I was eating ‘em nearly every meal each day and quit ‘em cold turkey and didn’t have any major issues…), depending upon how much you eat ‘em. Well, first, don’t buy anymore. Just finish up what you have gradually. Learn to cook real foods and you won’t miss that processed garbage. And you’ll feel a million times healthier after you’ve been eating real, whole foods. From there, just slowly cut down your dairy/egg consumption, or just quit ‘em all cold turkey like I did. Mind over matter.

I was vegetarian for awhile, but i didn’t really feel like I was doing anything cause I wasn’t much of a meat-eater to begin with, so about a month ago I went completely vegan without transitioning. Just replace milk with soya or almond milk, and make sure to look closely at ingredients. I never buy something that has an ingredient I cant pronounce, just good whole food.

I think it’s important to ease yourself into it. If you cut out one of your favorite products all at once it will be harder to stick to being a vegan. If you slowly take Morning Star products out of your diet, you will be a successful vegan in no time!

Also, it’s definitely important to learn how to cook good vegan meals for yourself. I was having second thoughts about being a vegan because I didn’t know what to make, then I went out and bought the cookbook Veganomicon. One of my vegan co-workers recommended it to me and it is great! Once I saw all of the great things I could eat while being a vegan, I had no reason NOT to be a vegan. Plus, there are some great baking recipes and the authors are pretty funny. I also heard that Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World is a great cookbook. It’s the same authors, but all baking. They are definitely worth checking out.

Good luck!!! Just remember all of the benefits being a vegan has to offer. It is totally worth it. And don’t worry, it gets easier with time :)
