Yeah sure, in our province its not a habbit or living but thats the only thing they can afford. Vegetables are abundant in provinces so its cheaper perhaps its free.
I would want to be a vegetarian but vegetables in cities are more than the average price.

Yes, I have met several Filipino Vegetarians. They are members of the Krishna Sect. But when I cook Lechon they line up for a plate full.
By the way. Are all vegetarians evil minded and cruel like you ? It is my observation that Filipinos have very unhealthy eating habits. the diet is loaded with fat and few vegetables. maybe the reason for this is that decent vegetables are impossible to find in the Islands.

hello kababayan. first of all, salamat sa tanong. hehe.. wala masyadong nagtatanong sa category na to eh. ![]()
it does seem like there aren’t many vegetarians here in the philippines. but we like vegetables and they are abundant and relatively cheap. restaurants and food stalls catering to vegetarian diets are also around.
hmmm… i guess the filipino diet is into fish and chicken and pork. it’s hard to pass those calderetas, minudos, lechons, sinigangs, barbecues etc. food is also so much a part of our culture.
many people are trying to increase their vegetable consumption, but completely removing the meat in their diet is just too hard.
i know of two vegetarian establishments near my school, UPdil, latasia fusion and likha diwa. they serve vegetarian karekare, bbq and other stuff in likha diwa. very interesting.
also, eating some vegetarian meals is an acquired taste.

I am a Filipino, but I am not a vegetarian. Only, I ate all kinds of vegetables with or without meat. You know, eating vegetables can make you feel stronger and able to cope up with your daily life. But for me, only vegetables is not the way life meant to me.
If you think that vegetables can prolong your life, then go on and live with it.

Years ago, I’ve met some in Cebu and Manila. I’ve even been to a Christmas party catered with just vegetarian dishes. When I was younger, I attended a youth camp for a week with just vegetarian dishes being served (survived it but I’m not a convert - I love my meat!).
You might try visiting this website and see if you can join this organization, where you might meet like-minded people.

i have been trying to be vegetarian for a while now (without success). sometimes (esp on christmastime) the look of lechon just gets the best of me. but most parts of the year, i stay away from meat, and subsist on vegetables and fruits mostly. i do yoga and pilates quite regularly so i have to maintain a lean figure.
while living in the states i find it more convenient to stay vegetarian for a whole year. fresh produce section is just as abundant as the meat and poultry sections. also, boca is easily available unlike in manila. have you ever seen one even in the gourmet markets? now that lent is here there is even more motivation for staying away from meat.
not for any other reason (i met a guy who became vegetarian because he wanted to boycott cattle raisers in their town), but more to keep from adding to my weight is my main motivation to be a vegetarian.
